Press Release

July 17, 2007

The 11th Annual Napa Chamber Benefit Golf Tournament will take place at Silverado Resort on Friday July 13. The slate of foursomes, as usual, was sold out as soon as the date was announced.

Now the Napa Chamber Foundation is offering Chamber members a new opportunity—and an entirely new golfing event. The 1st Annual Crush Classic will be held on September 27 at the StoneTree Golf Club in Novato. Click Here to Register

“There were several reasons we decided to hold another golf tournament,” said Sal Bianco, chairman of the new event. “In July, we are only able to give $5,000 to charities and we received more than 20 requests. Holding another tournament means we’ll be able to give more money to the community. Secondly, because the Foundation is a 501(c )3, entries may take a charitable tax deduction. Also, in July, we like to honor our President’s Circle members and our sponsors, so there are fewer slots for other Chamber members to have the opportunity to participate. The Crush Classic will allow other members to play a bigger role and will be open to non-members as well.”

The Crush Classic entry will include green fees, cart and box lunch, complimentary beverages, tee prizes, awards, and dinner. The format will be the same as the July tournament, a Shotgun Scramble, but will be lower key with greater exclusivity for sponsorships, creating a more golfer-friendly atmosphere.

“At the September event, instead of the regular silent auction, we will have a sports memorabilia vendor who has many unique and interesting items,” said Bianco. “Another reason that people will want to play in this tournament is that, for a lot of us, this may be our last opportunity of the year to play.”

“Everyone will have a good time,” said Bianco. “We’ll be sending out additional information and registration forms in the Hot Sheets and on our website. The reason we’re holding it in Marin County is that we have many members from Sonoma, Marin, South Napa County and Vallejo and we thought this would make a pleasant venue for them.”

One of the goals of the Napa Chamber of Commerce is to create a strong local economy. The 2007 July golf tournament beneficiaries include the Children’s Health Initiative, Ross Game Business Scholarship (Napa High), Boys and Girls Club of Napa Valley, Community Resources for Children, COPE Family Center and Napa Chamber of Commerce programs.
